Jelissa Burns here, while I usually cover food and drink in Appleton and Green Bay, I'll be occasionally doing some reporting for The Buzz.

This week was a little slow for The Buzz but there's still a few updates on events happening across Northeast Wisconsin.

I spoke with Connor Martin, a former high school English teacher who fulfilled his dream of opening and running his own gym in September 2023. Winnebago Fitness, a CrossFit gym, officially moved to its own location in April after Martin taught classes out of Limitless Elite Gym in Appleton.

Locals should start preparing for a cheese-filled day on July 27 as the Mac & Cheese Festival will debut in Appleton for the first time. The event will feature over 50 different flavors of macaroni and cheese and will be held at the Fox Cities Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

While some festivals are debuting, others are being put on hold. On May 13, the Home of the Hamburger board of directors announced that Burger Fest and the Hot Air Balloon Rally held annually in Seymour will be postponed this year. Complications with road construction activities on State 54 was the main factor in the decision to postpone the events.

Lastly, hearts across the community broke when it was announced that Matt Miller, founder of Irish Fest and owner of McGuinness Irish Pub, unexpectedly passed away on May 6. Friends of Miller praised his hard work, dedication, fun spirit and love for Irish culture and his community as they remembered his life.

Thank you for subscribing to The Buzz newsletter. If you have any tips, questions or thoughts, please don't hesitate to share them with me at jburns1@gannett.com. If you enjoy our reporting, please considersubscribing to The Post-Crescent.
