An already struggling animal shelter in Apple Valley suffered another blow this weekend when staff discovered the shelter's customized trailer had been stolen in a burglary, along with computers, a generator and other equipment, according to the organization.

The theft was discovered on May 25 at the Victor Valley Animal Protective League, 21779 Zuni Road, representatives said in a statement posted to social media .

"We had a major burglary at our shelter in the last few days," the statement said.

In addition to a "specially modified" trailer emblazoned with the organization's logo, stolen items also included computers, a portable generator and animal cages, the group said.

Roughly 100 feet of chain link fencing was torn down during the break-in.

The 56-year-old Victor Valley Animal Protective League had already suspended services earlier this year due to a lack of resources.

"There is a special place in hell reserved for folks who steal from a charity!" the statement said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Apple Valley Police Department at (760) 240-7400. Information may also be submitted anonymously to the We-Tip hotline at (800) 782-7463.
