Liberty makes big statement with dominant win over No. 1 Hamilton
Peoria Liberty cleaned up well since that 30-22 loss to defending Open Division state champion Chandler Basha on Sept. 18. The No. 4 Lions (AIA/MaxPreps 6A) dominated their next three opponents, as expected. But what they did on Friday night, Oct. 23, against No. 1-ranked Chandler Hamilton was a major statement. The Lions made their case as a top contender for the Open crown after taking apart the Huskies in a 38-7 6A high school football win at Liberty. The win was highlighted by an impressive drive in the final 55 seconds of the first half, when Liberty went 77 yards with no timeouts for a touchdown. That was followed by a 12-play, 85-yard drive to start the second half to take a 24-7 lead. "We've improved," said running back Jayden Sanchez, who scored on a 13-yard run to cap that 85-yard drive. "In the locker room (at halftime), we got fired up. We smelled blood in the water." After that score that opened the second half, Liberty's special teams came through, forcing a fumble on the kickoff. The Lions (7-1) poured it on from there, scoring two minutes later. They scored again on their next possession with quarterback Jason

Fans get first look at more Arizona softball newcomers in fall games against Phoenix College, Pima
The Wildcats also honored the late Larry Ray, who helped Mike Candrea build the historic program. Most of Arizona softball’s players had seen action in the first three fall games, including three players from last year’s squad who are trying to get eligible for fifth seasons. There were still two important newcomers who didn’t see the field in the Red-Blue scrimmage or last week’s doubleheader against UTEP.
