On a recent Thursday evening, Ellis County faced a harrowing challenge when a house on 1635 200th Avenue was engulfed in flames. The Ellis County Fire Department, dispatched before 5:04 p.m., arrived to confront intense flames and heavy smoke. Their prompt and strategic response, aided by the homeowners' quick evacuation, resulted in no injuries and the fire being extinguished by 6:37 p.m. A coordinated effort among thirty-five firefighters, Midwest Energy, the Hays Fire Department's air truck, Ellis County EMS, and Sheriff's deputies ensured the blaze was under control by 7:21 p.m., showcasing the critical role of interagency collaboration in emergency situations.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling had 15 individuals compete unattached in the first-ever Bob Smith Women's Open on Sunday (Dec. 3) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Three Tigers, including Piper Cadden (136), Ashlynn Goodwin (143), and Lila Bloomer (170), won individual titles, part of 12 individuals that earned placement in the tournament.

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - The Hays High boys wrestling team opened up their 2023-24 season by going 4-0 and winning the Junction City Blue Jay Dual Tournament Saturday.
