Mild and calmer Wednesday with strong storms possible later Thursday
Happy Wednesday, Northland! Despite being the start of fall, it had much more of a summer feel to it. Highs pushed into the upper 70s and lower half of the 80s, with those farther east towards the U.P. seeing upper 80s and even hitting 90 degrees. Ashland hit 89 degrees, making it the warmest September 1 in the 21st century and with the exception of one day in June, made it warmer than every day in June and August. For today, we wake up to a bit more clouds cover and some showers for the southernmost counties but we will get plenty of sun and calm conditions later on as a high-pressure system moves in. Temperatures won’t get quite to record setting levels today but will be on the mild side with highs ranging from the mid-70s into the lower 80s. We will see the weather pattern change Thursday with storms and showers possible later in the day. With some convective energy, some storms can be severe for areas along the I-35 corridor. If there is severe storms, then they can have the potential of bringing some pretty strong winds and large hail.
