    Andover softball seniors Kaelyn Polzin, Morgan Kostecka, Addison Winter, Maia Johnson and Joanne Bro, who have helped power the Huskies to a 9-1 start.

    Kaelyn Polzin

    Start in softball

    “I started playing baseball when I was 3 years old. My dad got me interested in the sport.”

    Enjoy most about sport

    “The lifelong and built-in friends I have made, as well as just playing the game.”

    Greatest challenge

    “Not letting it get to me: moving on from mistakes and overall time management of the sport.”

    Favorite part about position

    “I just love pitching and I love everything about it: striking people out, getting in tough situations, facing good hitters, everything makes me love doing what I do as a pitcher.”

    Best part of team

    “How funny they all are! I could be having a bad day and they brighten my day!”

    Pregame routine/superstition

    “I always have to have some sort of drink like Celsius or Gatorade.”

    “Winning against Forest Lake my freshman year!”

    Morgan Kostecka

    Start in softball

    “10 — I played baseball first, then wanted to play ball with girls my age. I also wanted to be like my mom and dad while watching them play softball.”

    Enjoy most about sport

    “Sisterhood — the team becomes sisters that will be by each other’s side and support each other until the end. Also, all the memories we make together.”

    Greatest challenge

    “Not participating in my junior year after tearing my ACL. It was hard not to be on the field.”

    Favorite part about position

    “As a pitcher, I get to control the game, pitch against some great hitters, and be a part of amazing games with my team.”

    Best part of team

    “We really love each other, work together, and never leave anyone out.”

    Pregame routine/superstition

    “Have a clear mind and a smile on my face.”

    “When I threw against Forest Lake in sections and we won!”

    Addison Winter

    Start in softball

    “When I was 8, my neighbors and I joined together.”

    Enjoy most about sport

    “The connections we make as a team; celebrating together as well as picking each other up!”

    Greatest challenge

    “Staying positive when we are down runs or mistakes happen.”

    Favorite part about position

    “I enjoy playing first base because I’m always busy and I get to finish the out my teammates have worked hard for.”

    Best part of team

    “How close we get so fast with such a short season. Also the energy and positivity.”

    Pregame routine/superstition

    “Same snack, usually apples, and the same warmup partner, Maia Johnson, every game.”

    Top Andover softball memory

    “Sections my junior year in Duluth and staying in a hotel and bonding. Also, the experience of going to Nationals in youth softball.”

    “I was 6 or 7 years old and my dad encouraged me to play.”

    Enjoy most about sport

    “Being around people who love the game as much as I do and winning of course!”

    Greatest challenge

    “Staying mentally tough through all the highs and lows.”

    Favorite part about position

    “I am always involved in the action on the field and feel like I can communicate with the entire team from where I play.”

    Best part of team

    “We are all supportive of each other and we encourage everyone to succeed on and off the field.”

    Pregame routine/superstition

    “I always do the same stretches and warmup with Addie Winter.”

    “Going to Nationals in youth softball, trading pins, staying in hotels, and making memories with my teammates.”

    Joanne Bro

    Start in softball

    “I was 7 and my dad suggested I try it.”

    Enjoy most about sport

    “Being able to play the sport I love with people who have the same determination and drive as me.”

    Greatest challenge

    “Persevering through slumps and mistakes.”

    Favorite part about position

    “Having to make split-second plays.”

    Best part of team

    “How funny and excited everyone is; even though we have a lot of variation in grade levels, we still all come together and support each other.”

    “Don’t touch the foul line before the game starts.”

    “When we won State in 10U in a close doubleheader against the Silver Bullets.”
