Mt. Washington Auto Road opens daily for 163rd season
GORHAM, N.H. — The Mt. Washington Auto Road opened for daily operations on Saturday, two weeks ahead of schedule. It is the 163rd season for the auto road, which first opened in 1861. Saturday's opening for daily operations is two weeks early, as clearing by the road crew and less extreme weather conditions over the winter allowed for daily operations to start, the auto road said.
Man who stole two cruisers in Oxford County shot by officers, police say
OXFORD COUNTY, Maine — A man who stole two law enforcement cruisers Monday was shot by officers and taken into custody, authorities said. Gary Porter, 37, faces a host of charges. Police said the incident started at about 7 a.m. in Paris, when officers received a report Porter was acting suspicious. He was arrested on a felony theft warrant and taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway where he was treated and released for "conditions unrelated to the arrest," according to a joint statement by Maine State Police, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Oxford police, Norway police, and Paris police.
