BUSINESS MONDAY: Spotlight on Flying Cloud Institute—igniting creativity through innovative programming
With an ambitious strategic plan and 40 years of successful programming under its belt, Flying Cloud Institute (FCI) continues to inspire young people and educators and ignite creativity while increasing access to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) learning through school residencies, after-school MakerSpaces, S•M•Art Labs and Girls Science Clubs, and summer, winter, and spring break programs. Founded in 1984 by Jane and Larry Burke and David Schwartz, the unique “Science Meets Art” approach has developed into STEAM programming that serves roughly 2,500 youth and educators in five school districts across Berkshire County and Region One in Connecticut annually. Mushroom Magic: Inside Ancram’s Little Forest Farm
With the Millbrook farmers market opening Memorial Day weekend, one vendor to watch is Little Forest Farm, operated by Julie McGanney and Frank Grisanzio. Little Forest Farm was established in 2021, two years after McGanney and Grisanzio moved to their eight-acre property in Ancram. McGanney, originally from New York City, previously worked at Full Circus Farm in Pine Plains. Grisanzio, from Lakeville, Mass., holds an MFA in poetry from the New School and left his job at the publishing nonprofit Author’s Guild to pursue farming full time. They married in December 2019.
Columbia County to explore new bus service with state grant
HUDSON – Columbia County is going to explore the creation of a new public transportation option connecting the City of Hudson to the Town and Village of Chatham. The $200,000 that will fund a study into the new routes was secured in the state budget by Senator Michelle Hinchey (D, Saugerties) and Assemblywoman Didi Barrett (D, Hudson).
