Another system moves in for Saturday, look for more wet weather. We’ll have a few leftover showers possible for Sunday. Late Friday and early Saturday morning, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers after midnight. A low temperature around the lower 40’s for the Snake River Plain. North winds around 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

IDAHO FALLS – Cameron Hobbs is a car and truck enthusiast, and he’s inviting you to attend a truck meet with “the coolest cars and trucks” on display for a cause. It’s happening Thursday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in a vacant lot near The Water Front at Snake River Landing at 1220 Event Center Drive. The purpose of the event is to raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospital for Children in Salt Lake and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Looking back: This week in eastern Idaho history
100 years agoEastern Idaho bid farewell to one of its pioneers this week in 1924 with the passing of Charles W. McCurdy of Basalt, who died April 29 at the age of 90. Born in New Hampshire in 1835, McCurdy attended Wesleyan University. On Sept. 25, 1861, at Sandwich, Ill., he joined the Illinois volunteers infantry, 52nd Regiment, Company G. He was discharged from the field in June 1862 near Corinth, Miss., then re-enlisted at Sandwich in December, in the Illinois volunteer cavalry. He was committed a second lieutenant in June 1865 and discharged at Nashville, Tenn., the following month. Following the war, he worked as a station agent for the Chicago & Alton Railroad for a number of years. He moved to Ogden, Utah, in 1876 where he worked as a clerk for a time, then was sent north by the Oregon Short Line Railroad as a checking clerk. On this trip, he was in the first engine that crossed the completed bridge over the Snake River at Eagle Rock, later Idaho Falls, and was finally located as the terminal agent for OSL’s stations at Idaho Falls and Camas. In 1888 he moved to Ovid, where he taught school for a number of years, then settled in Basalt, where he served as justice of the peace and notary public for 16 years. He was survived by his wife and 10 children, all but one of whom were with him at the time of his passing.
