Game of the Week | Liberty gets another shot at Midland Greenwood
Here's a look at the best high school football games in the Lubbock area in Week 3. GAME OF THE WEEK Midland Greenwood (2-0) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (2-0) 7 p.m. Friday, Patriot Stadium Midland Greenwood spoiled the biggest non-district game in Lubbock-Cooper Liberty history. It's a two-year history, but the fact remains. The Patriots were riding high at 5-0 last season when the Rangers sent them home with a 34-14 setback. Greenwood finished as a 13-1 regional finalist. There's no longer possibility of a postseason encounter, so Friday will be Liberty's only chance of revenge. The Patriots enter off a dominant 44-13 win over Class 5A Division I Frenship. Liberty recorded 11 sacks, led by Rylan Thomas' seven. The team moved up to No. 6 in the latest 4A D-II rankings Monday. Greenwood, which grew to 4A D-I this alignment, graduated most of its 2025 team but hasn't missed a beat. The Rangers are allowing 14.5 points per game after last week's 25-15 win over Lubbock-Cooper. It will take a herculean effort to maintain that. The Patriots are averaging 46.5 points. Week 3 games to watch for Lubbock area Shallowater (2-0) at Canadian (2-0) 7 p.m. Friday, Wildcat Stadium Last

Texas Tech emeritus professor's letter to the editor shares concerns on education
Having come to Texas Tech in 1971 and retired in 2010, I note the administration’s recent unprecedented abrupt upheaval of control over campus education . I have discussed the changes in conversations with currently active Tech faculty, to whom I express my gratitude for their time and attention. The following observations are based on these conversations. Teachers are cautioned against discussing gender identity and homosexuality, e.g. the effect of a homosexual author’s sexual status on a given work. Study of works by musicians such as Freddie Mercury and David Bowie is banned from music history courses. Doubt hovers over classical literary texts like Plato’s Symposium which exhibit the Athenian democracy’s acceptance of homosexuality. Faculty cite widespread confusion and frequent errors in the administrative judging of courses, with no room for appeal. The use of AI in officials’ scanning of courses is considered responsible for obvious blunders. Uncertainty reigns. Application of guidelines is subject to unpredictable change. Bans on apparently safe materials sometimes seem to have irrelevant criteria in mind. A Music School course on women musicians has been banned. Instances like this lead faculty to wonder whether policing for signs of DEI is at times in play. How do these
