AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Students from Amherst Regional High School staged a walkout on Tuesday at their school in protest of Israel’s war in Gaza.

A small but mighty group of high school students showed their support and solidarity on Tuesday for the people of Palestine, and they are objecting to universities and the U.S. government for their role in funding this genocide.

Most of the students are high school sophomores and they are joining the hundreds of UMass students who staged an encampment. All of the students on Tuesday led chants and joined the other students across the United States in the fight to end the current occupation.

Natalie, a sophomore at Amherst Regional High School told 22News that this cause is very important to her and the students she’s marching with, “I always try to do what I can and if it means walking out of the middle of B period, I’m going to do it. It feels really nice to be with this big group of people all standing for the same thing for peace freedom and liberation.”

Most of the students that were part of Tuesday’s walkout were high school sophomores. 22News did reach out to the principal’s assistant and we’re told that these students would not face any consequences for leaving school during school hours as long as they had a written consent from a parent or guardian.
