This pizza is cheese upon cheese

We're familiar with the stretchy, milky center of a burrata ball for our salads or charcuterie, but Hugo's in the Drake neighborhood puts it to the ultimate test by putting it on its pizza. What it is: Prosciutto Burrata pizza ($20) with a red sauce, shredded mozzarella, prosciutto, basil leaf, sea salt and a warm burrata ball. What I liked: What's not to like about cheese upon cheese? This takes a fun twist on a typical Margherita pizza by adding the burrata, which adds a creamier, gooey texture to the slices. It's like putting a warm, yolky egg on your toast. Yum. Pro tip: I went during the happy hour (3-6pm, Tuesday-Saturday) and paid only $10 for the pizza. From melty cheesesteaks to fat-stacked Reubens, The Good Butcher , off Ingersoll, is regularly selling out of its weekly Sandwich Tuesday specials. Why it matters: Food is fun, and these creative sandwiches get the shop's chefs to think outside of the box while also using locally sourced meats. How it started: A year ago, actor Nick Offerman was in town, and in an attempt to get him through the doors, The Good Butcher created a sandwich called The Offerman, chef Aaron Byrd tells Axios. While the celebrity didn't come in, dozens of customers did, prompting the butcher shop to regularly hold Sandwich Tuesday, Byrd says. State of play: The shop's brainstorming often starts with whatever excess meats are available. Sometimes it's extra smoked sausage or chuck eye steak. The sandwich is posted Tuesday morning, and the employees each try a bite to make sure it's good to go. The intrigue: Sometimes the flavors are international-inspired, like Balkan ćevapi sliders or a house-marinated bulgogi banh mi. What's next: Byrd says he's considering a chicken shawarma next week. The shop serves sandwiches from around 10:30am to 1pm.

Pheasant Season Opens in Iowa Today

Big Grove announces holiday pop-up for Iowa locations

IOWA CITY — Iowa’s largest brewery is keeping spirits bright with a new holiday pop-up experience this year. “A Very Merry Big Grove,” an immersive experience, will run in all four of its Iowa taprooms — Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Solon and Iowa City — from November through Jan. 5. The experience will roll out on a staggered schedule: Des Moines taproom opens Nov. 10.Cedar Rapids taproom opens Nov. 12.Solon taproom opens Nov. 16.Iowa City taproom opens Nov. 24. Each one will undergo floor-to-ceiling transformations where guests can expect “over-the-top” holiday decor, twinkling lights, festive energy, games and giveaways, in addition to holiday fare, special craft brews and cocktails, and ongoing holiday events.
