AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The United Way of Amarillo & Canyon released information on its Day of Caring in which Amarillo College and Xcel Energy will team up with the United Way on Friday and volunteer at community organizations throughout Amarillo and Canyon.

According to organizers, the day ran from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and started with a breakfast that included presentations from Day of Caring Co-chairs Terry Price from Xcel Energy and Sergeant Cody Jones from the Randall County Sheriff’s Office.

The over 250 volunteers dispersed to their assigned community projects. Organizers noted that all volunteers received a UWAC Day of Caring t-shirt and lunch was provided by Tyson Foods, Inc. and United Supermarkets.

Further, the Amarillo Wesley Community Center, Inc. announced that volunteers arrived at 9 a.m. to paint the center’s new classrooms. The classrooms, according to organizers, will serve as a better learning environment for tutoring services and will focus on helping to improve “student grades in school and increase interest in Reading, Math, and Science amongst low-income population.”
