1 dead in fatal wreck early Saturday morning

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Texas Department of Public Safety reports one person died in a fatal wreck that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday.

According to TxDPS officials, at approximately 1:36 a.m., a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling westbound, the wrong way, in the eastbound lane of I-40, while a semi-truck was traveling eastbound in the inside lane.

TxDPS officials said the Chevrolet Equinox struck the semi-truck head-on. The Equinox traveled into the center median and came to a final rest against the cable barrier facing southwest.

TxDPS officials also said the semi-truck traveled into the center median, through the cable barrier, and into the westbound inside lane facing east, where it came to a final rest.

Dustin Lorenzana, 36, Pampa, TX, the driver of the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox, was pronounced dead on the scene by Gary Jackson, Potter County Justice of the Peace.

Texas Highway Patrol Troopers investigated this wreck, and it remains under investigation.
