Nonprofit To Redevelop Putnam County Manufacturing Plant
Newly granted federal and local funds will allow an economic development nonprofit to redevelop a manufacturing plant in the Kanawha Valley. Advantage Valley purchased the Putnam County building — previously known as the Vossloh Track Building and the Union Boiler Plant — in 2023. The nonprofit works with local governments to develop jobs and economic growth in nine southwestern counties.

Three Dead, One Local, Due to State Weekend Fires
Three people died in three separate house fires in West Virginia over the past weekend. The first happened in Spencer, Roane County, on Friday evening around 8 p.m. A 67-year-old man died in a fire at his home in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue. Investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office have ruled the cause of the fire as undetermined but most likely accidental due to an electrical malfunction.
Hope Gas announces plans for the 6th utility acquisition
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Hope Gas has announced plans to purchase Consumers Gas Utility, pending approval from the state Public Service Commission. Consumers Gas serves about 8,500 customers in Cabell, Jackson, Putnam, Ritchie, Roane and Wayne counties.Hope Gas President and CEO Morgan O’Brien said this acquisition now puts Hope Gas in 38 of the state’s 55 counties. Like the previous five acquisitions, Hope Gas will file plans with the PSC to begin repairs and improvements to the Consumer Gas Utility system.

State approves Harrison County school consolidation plans
CHARLESTON, W.Va (WDTV) - The West Virginia Board of Education met Wednesday morning in Charleston and approved Harrison County school consolidations. The WVBE approved the Harrison County Board of Education’s requests to merge Liberty High School into the existing Robert C. Byrd High School and to consolidate Mountaineer Middle School and Washington Irving Middle School into a new Liberty Middle School. The new middle school will be housed in the vacant Liberty High School, according to Wednesday’s meeting minutes.
