CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — An Altoona man was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 99.

The crash happened at around 11:23 p.m. April 26, where 63-year-old Robert Cummings II was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near mile marker 61 in Worth Township. State police reported Cummings was driving southbound on I-99 when he crossed the grass median and entered the northbound lane. Cummings then hit a vehicle head-on.

Troopers said Cummings was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. The passenger of the second car, a 33-year-old from Indianapolis, was flown to UPMC Altoona with serious life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second car, a 24-year-old from State College, was taken to UPMC Altoona via ambulance. Troopers said he told them that he and the 33-year-old were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Authorities are investigating what may have caused Cummings to cross the median and enter the opposite lane. State police also said they are investigating the suspicion of DUI pending toxicology results.
