Man broke into Altoona home before crashing woman’s car, police said

ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — Altoona police said a man broke into a woman’s home before taking and crashing her car.

Dwayne Pendergrass, 38, of Croydon, was charged after the incident happened around 2 a.m. on March 5, according to the criminal complaint. Pendergrass allegedly showed up at the woman’s home in the early morning hours after borrowing her car and began pounding on the front door of her home.

The woman told police she heard glass breaking so she called 911, court dockets show. When she left her room, she claimed Pendergrass was standing in the hallway and pinned her against the wall before taking her phone, according to the charges.

Pendergrass then allegedly ran from the house and jumped into her car and took off. The woman told police she watched as Pendergrass crashed into a tree roughly two blocks away. He then went on foot down S. 14th Street.

When police arrived they were able to locate Pendergrass after searching the area. He was charged with burglary, theft, intimidating a victim, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property and two summary charges.

He was placed in Blair County Prison with bail set at $100,000.
