Angelina College mascot state taken down for updates, enhancements
NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The Angelina College Roadrunner statue is gone. It’ll be back, though, once it gets some “necessary enhancements” that “maintain its iconic look.” Angelina College officials said in a Friday press release that the decision to update the state was made to “ensure that it continues to embody the energy and enthusiasm that define our college community.” The statue was sculpted by I.W. “Buckshot” Ferguson and unveiled on September 13, 1982.
Ellen Trout Zoo trail closed due to washouts
LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin trail is closed for maintenance after heavy rains caused washouts. According to the Lufkin Parks and Recreation Facebook page, the walking trail at Ellen Trout Zoo is temporarily closed to address the washouts. The post said their maintenance team is assessing the damage and creating a repair plan.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas — The Angelina County Sheriff's Office has identified a woman found walking along SH 94 Sunday afternoon. The ACSO says the young lady was walking toward Lufkin near Della Russell Rd. Officials thanked the public for their concern and help.
2 Lufkin men die in 3-vehicle wreck on Sunday
LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Authorities have shared more details on a wreck that took place on South First Street Sunday morning. According to City of Lufkin Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth, a Honda sedan was southbound in the 3100 block of South First Street around 11:15 a.m. in the outside lane when it crossed into the path of an 18-wheeler traveling southbound in the center lane. Pebsworth said it appears the Honda was attempting to access the crossover in front of Cotton Patch, but it was “T-boned” by the 18-wheeler and came to rest in the median.
