Family Pets perish in House Fire near Clarkesville
Units from Habersham County Emergency Services, Clarkesville Fire Department, and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 2:50pm Tuesday afternoon to a reported house on fire north of Clarkesville. Occupants of the home, located at 127 Lone Wolf Way off Hollywood Highway, were out by the time emergency personnel arrived, but were unable to get all pets out of the house. Two family pets were brought out by firefighters, with Habersham County Emergency Services personnel attempting resuscitation. Sadly, neither pet survived. An interior firefighting team brought the fire under control by just after 3:15pm. Habersham County Emergency Services Engine 9, Engine 14, Med 9, Med 21, Battalion 1, Captain 1, and PIO responded, along with Clarkesville Fire Department Engine 3 and 351, and two units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. Because of a large supply hose from a hydrant on Hollywood Highway, the westbound lane (toward Clarkesville) was closed until about 4:40pm. “We’d like to thank the Habersham County Road Department personnel who came out and brought us cones and assisted the sheriff’s office with traffic control,” said HCES Battalion Chief Jason Garrett. “They were there within just a few minutes, and it was a huge help to us.” The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
