The Oswego County Department of Social Services (DSS) is closed today, March 1, due to technical issues resulting from a recent power outage. The facility will re-open for normal business hours on Monday, March 4. DSS staff do not currently have access to phone or email and will return any messages when the facility reopens on Monday. On Thursday at 8:22 a.m. an updated lake effect snow warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 7 p.m. for Oswego County. The weather service says, "Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph."
Crews find body after fire in Central NY home; investigators working to ID remains
Annsville, N.Y. — Emergency crews discovered a body Thursday afternoon after a fire in an Oneida County home was brought under control, sheriff’s deputies said. Police were called around 2:15 p.m. to the home on Mill Road in the town of Annsville, deputies said in a news release.

Thursday Forecast: Strong Isolated Lake-Effect Snow
Good morning and happy leap day! February isn’t leaving without a fight and today feels much much colder than yesterday following that powerful cold front. Temperatures fell rapidly, winds caused power outages in several spots, and a sharp cooldown created slick conditions on untreated surfaces. Lake effect snow has begun to fall and there will be sharp differences in snow totals depending on location. The most likely spot for the strongest sustained snow band to form will be in the hills just south of the Mohawk Valley. This will last throughout the morning before weakening and sweeping north during the afternoon.
WEST LEYDEN NEWS: Town news and church activities
