Crime is getting worse in Los Angeles — again
Los Angeles continues to be a shining example of what happens when soft-on-crime Democrats are tasked with running a city. The Los Angeles Metro system has become a hotbed of crime over the past week. On Monday night, two separate stabbing attacks on a Metro bus and a train station elevator sent three people to […]
Our Pasadena Community Cat
A couple of years ago a magnificent young tomcat began coming by my house, vividly orange with symmetrical circular markings and orange eyes. Initially, he came to see our 20-year-old female cat, but wouldn’t let me or my son near him. He was wary of humans, but he kept visiting, irregularly, even after our cat died; he uncannily showed up for her burial. Mr. Orange, as we called him, filled our cat needs; we fed him and he came to trust us. My neighbor Mo, another cat-lover, watched for him as well, and we reported sightings to each other. He would come to my door and then see Mo and hop along the fence and up to her roof where she petted him through the window and gave him treats. But he would disappear for a day or two and clearly had other options. We asked each other, “Where does he go when he doesn’t come to us? How is he always dry when it’s raining? Is he anyone’s cat? Why does he smell of perfume and have oil on his tail?” I wished he could tell us.
Guns once owned by law enforcement agencies found at crime scenes
Thousands of guns once owned by law enforcement have been found at crime scenes, including at incidents in Southern California, an in-depth investigation has revealed. A two-year investigation with KCAL News and partners Trace and Reveal showed that out of the 52,000 guns sold across the country by police agencies, many showed up at crime scenes over a 16-year period. Gun buy-back programs allow law enforcement agencies, like the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, to pull weapons from the market but they could also lead to lethal results. The Los Angeles Police Department has sold or traded at...

No matter what district attorney candidates say, Los Angeles is much safer than it used to be
It’s hard to generalize about a city like Los Angeles, and even harder to do so about Los Angeles County. What could 10 million people, who speak scores of languages, hail from every corner of the earth, cover the range of affluence from some of the world’s richest to many of the nation’s desperately poor, share in terms of politics or public concerns? And yet generalizing is the business of politics, and whether there is a consensus...
