Sioux Falls Jefferson upends Brandon Valley in SDHSAA football Week 4
Sioux Falls Jefferson and Brandon Valley entered a high-stakes South Dakota high school football matchup on Friday, Sept. 18, boasting defenses they felt were the best in the state. The Cavaliers proved to be slightly better, holding the Lynx to 14 points for a 20-14 win. Jefferson is now the only unbeaten team in 11AAA. Jefferson got contributions all over the board defensively, but the secondary was tested more than anticipated. Brandon Valley has typically been a run-first offense, but the Lynx opened it up a bit more than normal against the Cavaliers. "We've got the best DBs in the state," junior cornerback Camryn Hills said. "It makes it kind of easy on us, our D-line and our linebackers are some of the best in the state flying around. It makes it easier on us too." Hills, Cooper Nielsen, Sharif Ibrahim, Maddax Giblin and Joshua David were on the field most of the night, with Habonimana Fidel and Matnel Jensen also making big plays. Hills in particular had a tough draw against Brandon Valley, lining up across from 6-foot-2 senior Jack Blomgren and 6-foot speedster Tristan Dulaney a ton. He even drew South Dakota State tight end commit Austin Dowd

More: New partnership aims to pair hundreds of Sioux Falls students with mentors Michelle Madsen, senior director of community services for LSS of South Dakota, said the goal of 250 mentors will “put a dent in the countless number of kids that are waiting for a mentor.” How LSS’ mentoring program began LSS’ mentoring program started with just a couple hundred mentors in one school, in a partnership between the Sioux Falls School District and Sioux Empire United Way. Previously, school counselors were managing all the mentoring in the district. A dozen of those first mentors are still mentoring today, like Kiesow-Knudsen and Dave DeVries. Kiesow-Knudsen, then the
