Fuller Marine, American Legion hold benefit for injured veteran
It wasn’t your typical birthday party. Christopher George turned 31 on May 3 and his friends, family, co-workers and fellow veterans planned something special for him. He celebrated the day with a benefit breakfast held in his honor. George served in the U.S. Army for four years at Elemendorf-Richardson Army Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Moving a Mast at Goudy's in 1951, Part I
I wrote this article in 2007, but haven’t updated it at all. I find doing that breaks up the story too much with asides. So necessary updates are in brackets in the text. I love this shot of a troop of shipyard guys carrying a mast across the bridge in East Boothbay. It takes me back to my childhood here, when most jobs were carried out with manpower and main strength. If you needed to move something big and heavy, you got a bunch of men; if it was extra big and heavy, you got even more men.

First National Bank supports American Legion Post 36
First National Bank recently announced a $1,500 contribution to American Legion Post 36 toward community banners honoring veterans in the Boothbay Region. The veterans banner program committee began in the summer of 2023 and by November, 73 banners were produced and displayed on telephone poles throughout Boothbay. Since then, 257 more requests for banners have been submitted. To fully fund the program, American Legion Post 36 has set a fundraising goal of $25,000.
