What’s open, closed on Memorial Day in the Lehigh Valley

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually on the last Monday in May.

Here’s the list of schools, stores, government facilities and other places open and closed May 27:

Buses: LANTA will be running Monday on its usual Sunday service. Readers can get route and schedule details at lantabus.com .

Schools: Public schools are closed to observe the holiday, and many private schools are closed as well.

Federal government: All nonessential federal offices and courts are closed.

State government: State offices in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are closed.

County and municipal offices: City Hall in Allentown is closed. Check with individual counties or municipalities.

Package and Mail Delivery Services: No mail delivery Monday. Packages and mail sent with the priority services (Priority Mail and Express Mail) are usually delivered during the holiday. FedEx will not perform deliveries on Memorial Day for most of their services, except shipments sent through FedEx Custom Critical. UPS will not deliver on Memorial Day, UPS Express Critical will still be operational during this day.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All driver’s license and photo centers will be closed Saturday through Monday. Customers can still access all forms, publications and driver training manuals through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov .

Financial markets: The New York Stock Exchange and most banks and financial institutions are closed. Generally, ATMs and online services are still available.

Major retailers: Many stores will be open.

Grocery stores: Grocery stores will be open.

Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores: Many stores will open at their normal Monday hours and close at 5 p.m. Go to finewineandgoodspirits.com for individual store hours.

Libraries: The Allentown Public Library, Bethlehem Area Public Library and Easton Area Public Library are closed Saturday through Monday.

Trash pickup: Check with your municipality or your waste hauler.
