The Allen American's Games to Watch for the Week of April 29
The top track and field athletes in Texas are headed to Austin this week to compete for a spot on the podium at the annual state meet. Allen's boys and girls teams will both have representation at the meet, with the Eagles qualifying their 4x200-meter relay, plus Ethan Erwin in the pole vault, Joshua Johnson in the shot put and Cameron Miller in the triple jump. On the girls side, Karis Nartey will compete in the triple jump, Sahara Tasker will run the 400 and the Lady Eagles will also race the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Reliant Home Run Derby with Dallas Cowboys Scores $145,000 to North Texas Nonprofits
FRISCO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2024-- The Dallas Cowboys knocked it out of the park at the 11th annual Reliant Home Run Derby benefiting The Salvation Army of North Texas. Thousands of fans came out to Riders Field in Frisco to cheer on the Cowboys as they traded footballs for baseballs during this fun and friendly competition for a good cause. Wallace takes 1-shot lead
Matt Wallace has a one-shot lead over seven players in the first round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. The 34-year-old Englishman finished three strokes ahead of defending champion Jason Day. Hometown favorite Jordan Spieth is five back with world No. 1 and fellow Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler sitting out while awaiting the birth of his first child. Wallace is without a top-10 finish this season. His only PGA Tour victory came last year in the Dominican Republic. The round was suspended by darkness with nine players yet to finish at TPC Craig Ranch.

McKinney North's boys and girls teams will both have representation at the meet, with the Bulldogs qualifying Taylor Briggs in the 400, Kavion Blackwood in the 200, Matthew Harber in the pole vault, and their 4x100 and 4x400 relays. On the girls side, Ryhan Balous will compete in the 100 and long jump, Teah Walker will do so in the high jump, and North will also race the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
St. Paul softball: Gonzales beats SP in playoff warmup game 8-5
The Lady Cardinals found themselves down 7-0 after three-and-half innings April 22 at home to Gonzales in playoff-practice game. St. Paul did not give up scoring three in the bottom of the fourth and then getting two more in the fifth frame to get within 7-5. The Lady Apaches then scored one run in the to solidify an 8-5 win.
Will Zalatoris becomes the latest golfer to drop out of the Byron Nelson
Even though Austin didn't have the Dell Match Play this year, golf fans still have ample opportunity to get out around the state and see some of their local heroes. Unfortunately, those who chose this week’s Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney to see Texas stars in action will largely come away unhappy.
