Carl Sandburg College reveals contents of 1976 time capsule
Carl Sandburg College marked the 60th anniversary of voter approval for its creation by bringing together students, employees, alumni and community members for a Founders Day celebration. The event took place Sept. 24 in the Graham Health System Science & Technology Center Atrium on its Galesburg campus, according to a community announcement. The date marked six decades since voters approved establishing the college, while Sandburg's first classes began Sept. 18, 1967. Attendees explored a decade-by-decade look at the institution's past through a historical display available at sutori.com . The celebration also highlighted items recovered from a time capsule sealed in 1976 during the college's 10th anniversary. The capsule had been placed in what was then the exterior wall of Building D and is now located inside the Public Safety office. A tin container was inserted into a brick wall and covered with a block engraved with the year 1976. College officials opened the capsule before the celebration. Photos from that event are available at flic.kr . Time capsule offered glimpse into Sandburg's early years Among the contents were letters written by then-President Eltis Henson, the student trustee and the faculty council chairman. Also included were college catalogs from 1975-76 and
