Curtis Padgett found guilty of murder in 17-year-old cold case
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Cedar Rapids man charged in a 17-year-old cold case was found guilty of first degree murder by a Linn County judge on Monday. Curtis Padgett, 42, beat and stabbed Dennis First to death inside his apartment at the Hawthorne Hills Apartments on C Street SW in Cedar Rapids in May 2007. Padgett was not charged in the case until March 2023.

CEDAR RAPIDS & SOUTH AMANA, Iowa (KCRG) - We’re finally seeing these nice days a little more consistently, which means it’s time to start thinking about those summer gardens. Saturday morning was the Feed Iowa First plant sale at the Newbo City Market. The majority of the plant sale included preorder items, but plants were also available at the sale on a first-come-first-service basis. There were vegetables, herbs, annual flowers, and honey from Linn County bees.

Over the last 9 years, he's only lost 9 games-and only 2 in the regular season. He won 3 State championships at North Linn, and has appeared in 7 consecutive State title games. But this week, Hilmer announced that he's leaving North Linn to become the superintendent at Bellevue Community School District.
Trojan 4×800 team breaks school record at conference meet
MARION — It was a rain filled day as the South Tama track and field team loaded the buses to compete at the WaMaC conference meet at Marion High School last Thursday. The WaMaC has consistently been one of the strongest and most competitive conferences for track and field in 3A, so this will provide the Trojans with a good test before districts and state in the coming weeks. Despite the wet elements the weather was pretty idle for the athletes to put down some fast races, which is exactly what the Trojans were able to do.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Waypoint is hosting a polar plunge fundraiser Saturday, May 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids. People can’t take the plunge the day of the event; they need to sign up with a team ahead of time. They can do so here. Each team will have a goal to fundraise $1,000.
