[1] New video shows derailed train explosion near AZ-NM border – New dashcam video shows the explosion after a train derailed at the New Mexico-Arizona border Friday afternoon. Officials say they are still investigating the cause of the train to derail, but they of 35 train cars belonging to BNSF were involved. Officials say controlled fires are still burning in the area due to leaking propane, those fires are expected to be put out Monday. Eastbound and Westbound I-40 is back open in the area.

[2] Lawsuit over 180 day school year – New Mexico House Republicans are requesting to join a lawsuit against the state’s public education department. The suit argues the public education department overstepped its legal authority, it claims the requirement of 180 instructional days conflicts with the state’s rules allowing districts to opt for four-day school weeks.

[3] Warmer and drier weather to start the week – It will be a warmer, mild afternoon. Temperatures will warm into the 70s and 80s across most of the state. Skies will stay clear for all, and winds will be light at about 10 to 25 mph. Similar conditions are expected Tuesday, with even warmer temperatures through Wednesday.

[4] Red River Memorial Day event to replace annual motorcycle rally – The town of Red River is preparing for their new Memorial Day event. This comes nearly one year after a deadly shooting took place at the annual motorcycle rally. This year, officials say the event will be family friendly with live music, games and activities for everyone to enjoy.

[5] New Mexicans encouraged to participate in ‘City Nature Challenge’ – The City Nature Challenge has made its way back to the Albuquerque area. The global initiative is calling for people to take photos of plants and wildlife around the city and share them online using the iNaturalist app. Participants are able to upload photos from around Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia Counties. More than 400 cities across the world are participating in the ninth year of the event.
