Jury convicts Albuquerque man who shot his wife in a Walmart Neighborhood Market

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After only about 40 minutes of deliberation , a federal jury has convicted an Albuquerque local of a federal firearm offense. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) says 65-year-old Maurice Lacey shot his wife in a local Walmart Neighborhood Market in 2022.

Lacey has multiple previous felony convictions, the DOJ says. So, he is not legally allowed to possess a firearm. Now, a jury has found that he knowingly possessed a firearm in relation to the incident at the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 4700 Cutler Avenue Northeast.

Lacey is still waiting for his sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled. Based on the crime, he faces up to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the DOJ says.

According to the DOJ and court records, Lacey entered the Walmart Neighborhood Market’s employee breakroom in October 2022 and shot his wife, who was an employee there. He then told the store’s customers service desk that he shot his wife. He was arrested shortly after .
