ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Happy humpday! Per Meteorologist Matt Mackie, today will be another breezy one with some morning showers and temperatures in the high 50s.

A special needs student at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary wandered off campus into the road. Thankfully, a driver stopped and got the child back to safety. NEWS10 was able to speak with the child’s mother about the school’s response. Also, a Massachusetts man wanted on a murder charge was arrested at Albany International Airport Tuesday. These stories, and more, are covered in your five things to know this Wednesday morning.

1. Child wanders off from school, found in roadway

A scary Monday for mother Ashley Crewell when her son’s school called to tell her he had wandered off. Where he was found is even more alarming.  Her 7-year-old special needs son walked off the Broadalbin-Perth elementary campus and wandered into the middle of the road. She’s thankful a stranger intervened and got the child to safety.

2. Massachusetts murder suspect arrested at Albany Airport

A Massachusetts man wanted on a murder charge by the Greenfield, Massachusetts Police Department was arrested at Albany International Airport on Tuesday, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. Taaniel Herberger-Brown, 42, was charged as a fugitive from justice.

3. Police investigating after body found near Cayadutta Creek

The Gloversville Police Department is investigating after a body was located Tuesday afternoon. The body was found around 1:15 p.m. on the bank of the Cayadutta Creek in the area of River Street.

4. New York Sheriffs address violence against law enforcement

Just one day after the funeral of Michael Hoosock, an Onondaga County Sheriff Lieutenant who died in the line of duty, the New York State Sheriffs’ Association held a press conference at the state capitol.

5. Ranked: Best high schools in the Capital Region for 2024

U.S. News & World Report has released its 2024 Best High School rankings. Around 18,000 eligible public high schools were evaluated at the national, state, and local levels.
