NYSP: Albany man arrested following police pursuit

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — New York State Police arrested Daquan Watkins, 31, of Albany, on April 18. Watkins is accused of failing to comply during a traffic stop which led to a police pursuit.

State police report that the intial pursuit was stopped near Hamburg Street in Rotterdam due to safety concerns. Police say they then found the car on South Brandywine Street in Schenectady, where the driver tried to flee again and struck a trooper car.

Law enforcement says that the car was disabled because of damage in the crash and the suspect began to flee on foot, leading to a foot pursuit. The pursuit was brief and the suspect, who is allegedly Watkins, was taken into custody.

Charges

  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
  • Fourth-degree criminal mischief
  • Resisting arrest
  • Numerous vehicle and traffic law violations

Watkins was reportedly wanted on a felony arrest warrant issued by East Greenbush Town Court and the car he was allegedly driving was reported stolen on March 29. The suspect was transported to Schenectady County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
