A 3-year-old boy was shot Tuesday at an Albany apartment. Also, Troy Police are investigating a shots fired incident near River Street and Bond Street. The New York Move Over Law expansion, Norlite’s future in Cohoes, and Freihofer’s Bakery outlets closing in the Capital Region are all covered in your five things to know this Wednesday morning.

1. Three-year-old boy shot in Albany

A young child was shot earlier today at an Albany apartment complex and details are limited at this time. Albany police say they were called out to Albany Medical Center around 4 o’clock, Tuesday. There they say they found a three-year-old boy who had been shot.  Police tell me the boy is alert and conscious at this time.

2. Troy Police searching for shots fired suspect

Troy Police are investigating a shots fired incident near River Street and Bond Street. Authorities say a Troy Police officer heard what he believed to be shots fired in the area around 2:15 a.m., and additional evidence was found on River Street between Bond Street and Glen Avenue.

3. NY Move Over Law expands to include all cars

Starting Wednesday, March 27, the New York Move Over Law will expand, including all cars stopped along roadways. According to New York State’s website , 37 people were killed outside of disabled cars on the road from 2016 to 2020 with nearly 300 drivers killed on the roadside each year nationally.

4. Norlite re-evaluates future in Cohoes

A controversial facility in Cohoes has furloughed more than two dozen staff members. Norlite processes shale to produce a porous ceramic material and it has faced increased scrutiny over environmental concerns the last few years.

5. Freihofer’s Bakery Outlets in the Capital Region close

The last of the Capital Region Freihofer’s Bakery Outlets have closed their doors. The locations in Albany, Schenectady, Queensbury, and Nelliston (Montgomery County) have permanently closed.
