The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency has issued an air quality alert for Summit County through midnight Monday.

The air quality index for the Akron area was 71 as of 7 a.m. Monday, which is considered "moderate," according to AirNow.gov. The air quality will be unhealthy toward sensitive groups. Children, the elderly and those with breathing conditions are advised to shorten the amount of time they spend outdoors today, according to the National Weather Service.

Some of the effects are coming from wildfires in Canada – similar to what Northeast Ohio and other states experienced last summer – in combination with higher temperatures forecast for the area.
