    Roaches in rice. Raw chicken & seafood mixed. Midlands restaurants with worst April inspections

    South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Midlands in April, from roaches found in a container of rice to raw chicken and raw seafood stored together and dirty dishes stored as clean. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Midlands counties.

    Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in April.

    Jaj Aiken Indian Cuisine at 213 Richland Ave. W in Aiken

    Jaj Aiken Indian Cuisine had an inspection on April 5 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed dead insects through the back kitchen and pesticide tracking powder throughout the facility. Also observed were several bus tubs of prepped onions and cases of dry food product uncovered and stored on the floor.

    Heavy buildup and accumulation was sen on several spice containers. Several food pans and dishes with excessive food remnants were seen stored as clean. Raw meat was seen stored above ready to eat foods in the walk-in cooler.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 15 and got an A grade.

    Takosushi II at 210 The Alley in Aiken

    Takosushi II had an inspection on April 3 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed several racks of dishes with food remnants stored as clean. Also observed was raw poultry being stored above an open container of raw shrimp.

    Certain food was seen not kept at a proper holding temperature. Excessive black buildup was seen on dish racks. A large hole was seen in the floor of the walk-in freezer.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 17 and got an A grade.

    Indian Fusion Grill and Bar at 8390 Charlotte Hwy in Lancaster

    Indian Fusion Grill and Bar had an inspection on April 24 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed an employee touch trash then continue to cut vegetables without washing hands.

    Dirt and debris buildup was seen on the sides of equipment on the cook line. Several uncovered food containers were seen in the walk-in cooler. Organic buildup was seen inside the ice machine.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    Wa Chang Buffet at 270 Hwy 9 Bypass East in Lancaster

    Wa Chang Buffett had an inspection on April 5 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed an employee rinsing the mixer and bucket used to make batter for fried chicken in the mop sink and then stored to dry. Also observed an employee pick food up off the flor and handle dirty dishes then not wash hands before handling clean dishes.

    Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Frozen chicken and egg rolls were seen thawing on the counter.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 12 and got an A grade.

    Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles at 1260 Bower Parkway in Lexington

    Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles had an inspection on April 2 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed employees not wash between glove changes when shifting from handling raw to ready to eat foods. Also observed an employee with long nails handling plates of food, an employee wearing an apron to the bathroom and employees with long hair without adequate restraint.

    Baked on matter was seen on baking pans stored as clean. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 12 and got an A grade.

    Tokyo Buffet at 109 Woodland Hills Road in Lexington

    Tokyo Buffet had an inspection on April 3 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed roaches in a container of rice. Also observed were roaches throughout the facility and dead bugs in light fixtures throughout the facility.

    Gloved employees were seen moving from task to task without changing gloves and washing hands. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 8 and got an A grade.

    Irene’s of Newberry at 2895 Main St. in Newberry

    Irene’s of Newberry had an inspection on April 10 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed employees using their bare hands to handle ready to eat foods on multiple stations.

    Fried chicken strips were seen not fully cooked. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Catfish was observed thawing in a sink while not under running water.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 15 and got an A grade.

    Lozanos Authentic Mexican at 2701 Winnsboro Road in Newberry

    Lozanos Authentic Mexican had an inspection on April 3 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed several bags of different meats thawing in standing water at room temperature.

    An employee was seen only rise hands without using soap or paper towels and an employee on rise hand after placing raw chicken onto flat top. An employee was also seen using bare finger to apply topping to a drink.

    Repackaged raw chicken was seen stored in the freezer over and with ready to eat products.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 10 and got an A grade.

    Arabesque at 2930 Devine St. in Richland

    Arabesque had an inspection on April 18 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed multiple bins of raw chicken stored over beef in the walk-in cooler. Also observed were dishes with heavy debris still attached but stored as clean.

    An employee was seen scratching his arms and beard and then not washing hands before donning new gloves. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Certain foods were seen kept past expiration dates.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 26 and got an A grade.

    Pho Viet at 9308 Two Notch Road in Richland

    Pho Viet had an inspection on April 17 and got a C grade.

    An inspector observed an employee wiping nose with bare hands, then, without washing them, touch equipment and other items. Also observed were live roaches in ware washing areas.

    Raw seafood was seen stored in a container with raw chicken. Dishes with food debris were seen stored as clean. Multiple items were seen stored on the floor. Deep grooves with black buildup were seen on cutting boards.

    The restaurant had a required followup inspection on April 25 and got another C grade. A second followup inspection has not yet been held.
