2021 Albany NY Mayoral race final tally
2022-03-11
It's 2022 and I think it's time to review the numbers of people who voted in the November 2021 Mayoral race in Albany, New York. Plenty of people gripe about the city, the politics, city services, the look and the lame aspects of Albany. A review of the statistics are in order, so we can decide to definitively blame your neighbor or the person in the mirror. Let's start with the United States Census that was conducted in 2020. The population of Albany has increased to 99,224 from 97,856 in 2010. While we are still below the 100,000 threshold, at least we are moving in the right direction.https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/albanycitynewyork,albanycountynewyork/PST045221
It's interesting to know that the population has increased. Hopefully, these new arrivals to the Capital of the Empire State intend to or have brought new energy and ideas to make the city thrive.
Mayor Katherine M. Sheehan, the Democratic incumbent, won the election. Mayor Sheehan's total vote count was 8,837. Her opponents were Alicia M. Purdy and Gregory J. Aidala. Ms. Purdy ran on two different party lines which were Conservative and Republican. She received 523 votes and 1,862 votes respectively from each party line for a total of 2,385 votes. Gregory J. Aidala ran on the Independent line. Mr. Aidala received 2,374 votes. There were also Write-In votes that totaled 419. Therefore, 14,015 voters made decisions for a population of 99,224.
