Festivities at Chico's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival bring happiness

ADRIAN — A little bit of rain Saturday morning and early afternoon didn’t slow down Chico’s Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival.

The Adrian event marked its second year of being recognized as Chico’s Cinco de Mayo — renamed in memory of longtime community advocate and festival founder Chico Martinez .

After the parade filed through downtown Adrian with at least 50 entries, the festival commenced at the Lenawee County Fair & Event Grounds. Live music, dancing, entertainment, food and craft vendors were among the highlights, which is continuously growing, organizers said.

Championship International Wrestling, a new addition to the event lineup, staged a “Cinco de Mayo Mania” wrestling match to the delight of young and old fans.

“They really knew how to entertain the crowd and get everybody into it,” said Teresa Martinez, Chico’s wife and vice chairperson of the parade and festival.

Martinez said she was overwhelmed to the point of crying happy tears because of the joy and happiness she saw people experiencing while attending the parade and festival.

“It was wonderful. That’s what this (event) is all about,” she said. “We got a lot of compliments from participants who came out to enjoy the festivities.”
