Letter: It’s landlords, not Council, who give town a bad name
This letter responds to the George Norris letter, published last week (“Council is giving Narragansett a bad name,” The Independent, June 6, 2024.) To the contrary, it’s the 2100 Landlord Group, led by George Norris that has acquired a “bad name.” They have done so by consistently suing the Town over legitimate zoning regulations that protect neighborhoods from decimation due to the steady conversion of family homes to investment rental properties. They have done so by trying to convince URI students to register and vote as Narragansett residents, irrespective of the impact on their student loans and grants, by threatening rental increases if they don’t. They have done so by consistently attacking this Town Council, led by Council President Ewa Dzwierzynski; a Council that has accomplished more on behalf of residents than any Town Council in recent memory. And the vast majority of these landlord led attacks lack professionalism and express vitriolic personal attacks. This is especially true on social media platforms that fuel hatred, bigotry and lies. Just look at the list of article references in last weeks letter by Mr. Norris? Read beyond the article headlines, as I have, and you’ll see that, despite nuanced titles, they actually provide a balanced viewpoint.
