Sunmax Tech is opening the first of three phases in Adairsville next month, a project that — when all phases are completed — is scheduled to add 242 jobs with a total economic investment of $193 million.

The first phase of the new energy components company is at 500 Soho Drive. With some 300,000 square feet under roof, it is scheduled to begin production in May. It involves a $39 million investment and creates 82 jobs. It will produce solar photovoltaic junction boxes and solar cables.

Over the next five to eight years, phase two involves a $76 million investment followed by $78 million for phase three. These phases will focus on expanding production capabilities to include EVA film, cable line plastic material, aluminum solar frames and copper wire.

By 2027, the company is targeting annual sales of $100 million and capturing over 40% market share in photovoltaic junction boxes and connectors across North America, a media release states.

It is the latest in a surge of green energy investments in Bartow County.

Qcells’ solar equipment campus in Cartersville already is producing solar modules from what will be a $2.5 billion, 2,000-employee campus off I-75. Qcells likewise has major holdings in nearby Dalton.

Also on the way is the $5 billion, 3,500-employee electric battery plant from SK On and Hyundai, already dominating the skyline in western Bartow County off U.S. 411. It should begin production next year.

Georgia’s rapid development, coupled with increasing governmental support for the new energy industry, positions the region as a fertile ground for Sunmax Tech’s ambitions, according to a media release.

“Georgia’s growing solar panel manufacturing industry is creating jobs and opportunities for many communities, especially in Northwest Georgia,” said Kristi Brigman, Georgia Department of Economic Development deputy commissioner of global commerce.

Added Adairsville Mayor Kenneth Carson: “With its strategic location, vibrant community and promising economic landscape, Adairsville provides an ideal environment for Sunmax Tech to thrive and serve its customers with innovative solutions in the renewable energy sector.”
