This Wisconsin Mexican Kitchen Starts Every Morning With Fresh Tortillas
Tortillas get made by hand here every single day. They aren’t just for the tables, either. The same fresh batch heads straight to the grocery shelves next door. That’s right, this spot is a full-service Mexican restaurant and a stocked Mexican supermarket under one roof. You can finish lunch and then grab produce, pantry staples, and imported treats on your way out. I love how practical and fun that combo feels.

Tony Shalhoub's new memoir rooted in Wisconsin is literary comfort food
Tony Shalhoub’s new culinary memoir should come with a warning. Perhaps something along the lines of: “Reading this book will make you secretly long to be part of the Shalhoub family just so you can come to the reunion every summer in Door County.” “We Thought They’d Never Leave: Musings on Food and Family” is the Emmy Award-winning actor’s first crack at a book, and like most everything he lends his talents to, it’s playful, funny, from the heart and but another reason to make Green Bay proud to call him a native son. With the help of his daughter, Josie Adams, Shalhoub gives readers a most gracious window into his upbringing on the city’s east side in a house at 829 Doty St. with nine siblings, Lebanese American parents and a kitchen that smelled of stuffed grape leaves, bratwurst and roasted lamb. It was as a child that his family began spending summers in Door County – picking cherries for 25 cents a bucket, swims in the “healing waters” of Lake Michigan and breakfasts at the Sunset Restaurant and Motel. Those days on the the scenic peninsula of Door County have turned into what is now the extended Shalhoub

This Green Bay Mexican Restaurant Has The Kind Of Food That Turns First-Time Visitors Into Regulars
A bench signed by Green Bay Packers players sits inside this Mexican restaurant. That alone tells you plenty about who’s been eating here. The owners describe their food as cooking like what mom makes at home. The menu backs it up with birria, chiles rellenos, beef tongue tacos, and a chile de arbol sauce listed as very hot.
