    Small business owners attend symposium at Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center

    ABINGDON, Va. (WJHL) — The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center hosted a small business symposium on Tuesday.

    Several training topics will be covered at the free event. Attendees will get the chance to meet experts in marketing, government contracting and finance.

    Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity Business Services Manager Ramain Gohar said the goal behind the event is to understand the needs of small business owners.

    “The main goal behind [the event] is to understand what their needs are and to bring the resources also, such as from [the] Virginia Small Business Financing Authority and our local and state partners so they can all come under one roof,” Gohar said. “Small businesses can get all of those resources. What they need.”

    Gohar said small businesses are at various levels and their needs differ.

    “Small businesses are at various different levels,” Gohar said. “From startup, your needs are different. If you are in business for a few years, your needs are different. So when they attend this kind of symposium, they get to know different resources that can help you at different level[s].”

    The event will run until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
