Stratford football controls trenches in dominant region final win over Hawley
LUBBOCK — The most trouble Stratford football coach Jon Murphy had Friday night was deciding which side of the ball impressed him more. The Elks made it a tough choice with a dominant 46-6 victory over Hawley in a Region I-2A Division I final at Lowrey Field. Stratford ran for 289 yards and held the Bearcats to minus-44. The Elks limited Hawley to seven first downs and forced three turnovers in dispatching the 2022 state champions.
Bearcats, Eagles to clash for first time ever
The Abilene Eagles have been playing football for a long time, with the first of their seven state championships coming in 1923. Their most recent was 2009, which was also the year in which Aledo began its journey to become the most dominant high school football team in the history of Texas.
Abilene ISD Highlights: Basketball Tournament, City Sidewalks Event, Outstanding Educator Award, and Middle School Honor Band Selections
The Abilene High and Cooper boys’ basketball teams are hosting the Raising Cane’s Key City Classic tournament at Eagle Gym and Cougar Gym. Cooper recently defeated Lubbock Estacado, the 11th-ranked team in Class 4A, and Abilene High has a 5-1 record. The tournament, which started on Thursday, includes teams from Fort Worth Nolan Catholic, Midland Christian, The Colony, Abilene Wylie, Cleburne, Benbrook, Parish Episcopal, Aledo, Midland Legacy, and North Crowley. The final game will be on Saturday at Eagle Gym.
Abilene High's Andruw Villa earns berth in Nike national cross country meet in Oregon
Andruw Villa left the Nike Cross Regionals South race on Nov. 18 at The Woodlands thinking his high school cross country career was over. The Abilene High senior finished seventh on the Bear Creek Park course — two spots back of the fifth and last automatic berth for the national meet, the Nike Cross Nationals, Saturday in Portland, Oregon.

Aledo Dominates Abilene, Advances to Semifinals
On Friday night, the Aledo Bearcats faced off against the Abilene Eagles in round 4 of the playoffs at Tarleton Stadium. The Bearcats started off hot and never stopped, with Hauss Hejny throwing for 203 yards on 12 of 21 pass attempts and scoring 2 touchdowns. Hejny also rushed for 100 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground. The ACU Pickleball Club served up a unique event with their 24-hour Pickleball Tournament. From 3 p.m. on Friday to 3 p.m. on Saturday, participants engaged in matches across various brackets. The club offered hot cocoa, pizza and Insomnia Cookies to guests who attended. Santa made a special appearance for photos and the top of every hour brought exciting twists to the games. Attendees also had the chance to paint their own pickleball paddle.
