A New Guard at The Pioneer Theater
One of Michael Basnight’s earliest memories is of a field trip to The Pioneer Theater. He and his Manteo Elementary School classmates waddled down Budleigh Street like excited little ducklings to see a movie — on a school day! When he was a bit older, Basnight’s parents or grandparents would drop him off at the theater, and in the summer, he’d ride his bike there with friends. As a teen, he took dates to the theater — just as his parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins had done before him.
Manteo High School - Gitzelle Enciso-Ramírez
BIOGRAPHY: My name is Gitzelle Enciso-Ramírez and I am currently a senior at Manteo High school. I am also currently dual-enrolled with my local community college, College of the Albemarle, and will be graduating with my Associate in Arts degree when I graduate from Manteo High School. I am a middle child and am the second oldest out of four daughters in my family. Throughout high school I have been heavily involved in school and community events. One of my favorite activities, however, has been being part of my school’s color guard team. I have been in the Manteo High School color guard team for four years and was chosen as flag captain my senior year. I love color guard and the friends I made along the way and will keep supporting color teams wherever I go.I plan to attend a four year university and major in Business Administration or Economics. I want to use the knowledge I learn in college to help not only my family with our small business but also to help others in my Hispanic community learn how to also start their own business. Many have great business ideas and I would love to help them turn their dreams into reality.
