A family-owned furniture store in Ventura that operated for nearly 30 years is expected to close at the end of the month. Owners Harriet Beskin and her husband Jeffrey Beskin, who are in their 70s, no longer want to keep Sofas Etc. going and decided to close now that the building was recently sold.

Quonset hut fire in Saticoy brings large response, displaces 5
A residential blaze in Saticoy Saturday drew a large firefighter response as crews upgraded the incident to a second-alarm fire. The incident was reported shortly before 11:15 a.m. in the 11100 block of Azahar Street, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The block is near the intersection with Alelia Avenue in the unincorporated Saticoy community outside east Ventura city limits.

Man Sentenced to Prison for Criminal Threats, Assault on Officers
The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced that Nathan Journigan, a 30 year-old man from Ventura, was sentenced on Thursday, April 25, 2024, to five years state prison. He previously pled guilty on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, to felony criminal threats and felony preventing a police officer from performing their duty. Journigan also pled guilty to misdemeanor assault on a peace officer, and admitted to several special allegations and enhancements.
