WASHINGTON —President Biden declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Kansas and ordered Federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe winter storm from January 8 to January 16, 2024, according to a statement from the White House.
🏈 Combine big success despite weather
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Over 70 kids attended the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson’s 2024 Skills Combine, despite the curveball from Mother Nature. There were events inside the HutchCC football facility that focused on speed & agility and once the weather cleared the kids went out and held one on one drills.
Old K-14 resurfacing is set in Sterling, Reno County
RICE AND RENO COUNTY — Resurfacing will start soon on Old K-14 in Sterling and Reno County. A contractor for the Kansas Department of Transportation will do an asphalt mill/overlay on Old K-14 through Sterling. The work is expected to start on the south side of Garfield Avenue and move north to a little north of West Kansas Avenue.

City of Stafford offering community cleanup dates
The City of Stafford will have a couple of dates for community cleanup. May 3 - The city will have the first of five large roll-off dumpsters set across from the power plant on South Boston, for city residents only. Once these have been used, we will not have them back until next year.

Salt City has truly Grand Opening Friday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Racing is back on the historic half-mile oval in Hutchinson. Salt City Racing LLC opened its 2024 season Friday night at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. "We had a great night," said Phil Nightingale. "Hit my goal on race cars and we had over 2,500 in the stands!"
Kan-Care Cyclists coming to Hutchinson Wednesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A group supporting Medicaid Expansion in Kansas, the Kan-Care Cyclists, are holding a bike ride in Hutchinson on Wednesday, May 1. The ten-mile ride will start at 10 a.m. at the south entrance to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and come back to the hospital around 11 a.m.
Irwin named to 911 Coordinating Council
TOPEKA, Kan. — Kevin Irwin, Director of Hutchinson-Reno County Emergency Communications, was named by Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday to the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council. The Kansas 911 Coordinating Council was created by the Kansas 911 Act (K.S.A 12-5362 et seq) and is tasked with monitoring the delivery of 911 services, developing strategies for future enhancements to the 911 system.
K-14 ramp closure schedule changes
RENO COUNTY — Current K-14 ramp closures at Wilson Road are expected to end sooner than scheduled. The exit ramp from northbound K-14 to Wilson Road is now expected to reopen around 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30. The entrance ramp from Wilson Road to northbound K-14 is now expected to reopen around 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1.
