Two women injured in pre-dawn crash on Highway 36 near Marceline
An early morning accident on Highway 36 near Marceline, Missouri, resulted in moderate injuries for two women when their car crashed and struck a tree on April 27. At approximately 4:02 a.m., a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Amnah E. Thabet, 20, of Lenexa, Kansas, was traveling westbound when it failed to navigate a curve. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the car then veered off the left side of the road, collided with a road sign, crossed back over to the right side, and subsequently became airborne. After a second airborne incident, the vehicle slid down an embankment and crashed into a tree.

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 36, approximately one mile west of Mooresville, Missouri, at around 6:22 p.m. on April 24, 2024. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Terrance G. Givens, 34, of Kansas City, Kansas, collided with the rear of a 2022 Ford F750, operated by Adam E. Ponsor, 37, of Waukee, Iowa.

The Chillicothe City Council will consider four ordinances on April 29. The meeting will take place at Chillicothe City Hall at 5:30 p.m. One ordinance proposes to accept the lowest and most responsible bid for three years of HVAC maintenance. Another aims to approve a lease agreement with Grand River Entertainment for the use of Shaffer Memorial Park in 2024. Additionally, an ordinance would authorize the city to enter a supervised work release program agreement with the Missouri Department of Corrections. The final ordinance seeks to amend sections of the city code regarding animals and fowl.
Free stargazing event at Little Compton Lake offers telescope views
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a free Dark Skies stargazing event from 5 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Little Compton Lake Conservation Area south of Hale in northeastern Carroll County. Participants will have the option to camp overnight, and MDC staff will provide fishing and archery lessons with equipment included before a dinner break and nightfall.
