Deadly helicopter crash near Texas-Mexico border now under criminal investigation
STARR COUNTY, Texas — Authorities are investigating if there was any criminal wrongdoing in a deadly helicopter crash near the Texas-Mexico border. According to ABC News, Major Carlos Delgado with the Starr County Sheriff's Office said his agency is still conducting its own criminal investigation into the crash after turning the case over to the Department of Defense.
Mission limits public comments at council meetings
Mission City Council approved an ordinance that limits citizen participation at the city council meetings, and some Missionites are disappointed with the decision. Ordinance 5481, which the council unanimously approved at the April 22 meeting, amends a previous ordinance detailing the procedures for presentations to the council. Under the new law, those speaking during the citizen participation portion of the meeting are only allowed to address items on the agenda. Previously, a citizen could publicly speak about any issue for the allotted 3-minute time frame.
Coast Guard rescues 8 children on Rio Grande after raft deflates
MCALLEN, Texas – A deflating raft on the Rio Grande River left eight children in trouble. Luckily, the United States Coast Guard was able to save the day. A 29-foot response boat was patrolling the Rio Grande, when it encountered a group of non-citizens attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border on a raft. The raft featured one adult smuggler and eight children ranging between ages six and 13.
