More charges filed against Bryan pastor
BRYAN — Pastor Chris Avell of Dad’s Place again faces criminal charges with a Friday filing by the city of Bryan. Attorneys for the downtown church maintain the action disregards a previous court order. The charges stem from Fire Chief Doug Pool filing two recent violations related to zoning regulations and the lack of an automatic sprinkler system installed in a sleeping area after an alleged unannounced inspection at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Jeremy Dys, an attorney with First Liberty Institute representing Mr. Avell, said Friday that the church had never before heard about the sprinkler concern.

BRYAN — A Bryan man pleaded not guilty here in Williams County Common Pleas Court to an attempted murder charge and three others. Jacob Pettit, 39, pleaded not guilty to the first-degree felony along with two counts of strangulation, second- and third-degree felonies; and domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. Garrett Schroeder, 19, Ottawa, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, one a fourth-degree felony, the other two first-degree misdemeanors; illegal use of minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance, a fifth-degree felony; and menacing by stalking, a first-degree misdemeanor. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered and his bond was continued. Sentencing was scheduled for May 13. The fifth-degree felony charge was amended from a second-degree felony. Samantha Manson, 42, Grover Hill, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. She was granted drug treatment in lieu of conviction and placed under supervision for two years on condition she complete a treatment program at Westwood Behavioral Health Center. An indictment against Corbin Voirol, Continental, for possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, was dismissed.
