Convicted rapist seeks parole 4 years after victim took her own life
GUNNISON — A Salt Lake man convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman at gunpoint in 2012 is now seeking to be released from prison. But while Brian Newton, 34, was able to speak on his own behalf during Tuesday's parole hearing from the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, his victim was not.
Utah motel manager charged with rape
FILLMORE — The manager of the Fillmore Motel was charged Tuesday with rape. Orlando Schmidt, 55, is charged in 4th District Court with rape and object rape, first-degree felonies. Court documents do not indicate how old the alleged victim is, but charges of furnishing alcohol to a minor, a class A misdemeanor, and providing tobacco or an e-cigarette to a minor, a class C misdemeanor, are included.
