Suspect arrested in Mankato drive-by shooting
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - A man has been arrested following a drive-by shooting in Mankato Monday night. Mankato Police say they were called to the area of Good Counsel Drive and Riverfront Drive on reports of a suspicious man and vehicle around 9:45. Police say the caller then drove away, going north on Riverfront Drive and then west on Highway 14. Police say as the caller was traveling on Highway 14 he noticed the suspect alongside him and heard a noise sounding like a gunshot.

Police say the suspect in a drive-by shooting on Highway 14 in Mankato has been arrested. On Monday at 9:45 p.m. the Mankato Department of Public Safety responded to a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Good Counsel Dr and Riverfront Dr.
Winthrop man sentenced for DWI arrest after 100 mph chase through Morton
A Winthrop man, Damon Jon Muchow, age 33, was sentenced in Redwood County Court for leading police on a high speed chase through Redwood County last October. According to court documents, shortly after midnight on Oct. 15 a Lower Sioux Police officer noted a vehicle driving along County Road 2 at a high rate of speed. The driver responded by accelerating onto Highway 71, then east onto Highway 91, into a ditch and back onto the road, and through Morton at high speed. At times the vehicle exceeded 100 mph before finally stopping near mile marker 85.
Vernon S. “Chub” Ebnet
Vernon S. “Chub” Ebnet, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Chub was born on January 27, 1922, in Albany, MN, to Michael and Mayme (Griedel) Ebnet. He graduated from Albany High School, received his Bachelor of Science Degree from St. John’s University, and his Masters from Missouri University. Chub started his teaching career at the Prep School at St. John’s. In his young years, his dad, he and his brothers formed an “all-Ebnet baseball team. After college he played with the Northern League. Because of his talent as a baseball player, he was offered a job teaching and coaching at New Prague, where he served as head football coach and played for the New Prague Robins. He continued his career at Irondale High School, where he served as head coach for girls’ tennis, retired from there, and returned to New Prague. His entire life was devoted to sports of all kinds. He taught all sports – tennis, hockey, football, baseball, to name a few – and became a mentor to countless young men and women, many of whom returned to honor him. He was named to the New Prague High School Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Coach from 1955-1968.
