'I doubt that I’d be stable' | H.O.M.E. Center assisting homeless veterans with PTSD get back on their feet
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Ahead of Memorial Day, one San Marcos organization is making sure it's providing all the support that homeless veterans in Hays County need. The H.O.M.E. Center threw its first fundraiser Saturday night at Tantra, with live music to raise money for all the services they provide to veterans year-round.

Two Southern pitmasters from unlikely origins are spreading a new kind of barbecue gospel—from the Carolinas to Texas. As thousands of barbecue fans were set to descend on Lockhart, Texas, the barbecue capital of the state, on November 4 and 5, 2023, more than a dozen pitmasters spent the wee hours of the morning filling the air with the heady scent of post oak and seasoned meats. Nearly all of them were prepping the Texas standards: brisket, hot links, beef ribs. All except for a couple of guys laboring over two open pits where the smells wafting out were distinctly different—fattier, headier, spicier. These two were cooking whole hog.

A San Marcos police officer who suffered a severe injury in the line of duty has received a heartening welcome upon her return home. Officer Claudia Cormier, who had her leg amputated after a drunk driver struck her while she was responding to a call on Interstate 35, has been through extensive rehabilitation and medical treatments. The ordeal began in May 2019 when Cormier pulled over to clear debris from a roadway, reports CBS Austin.

The Music on the Square concert series kicked off its 2024 season on May 10, offering a free opportunity for locals to enjoy live music and support the local art scene. Bobcats earn multiple all-conference honors
Texas State earned multiple Sun Belt Track and Field conference honors following the completion of the conference outdoor meet. Head Coach John Frazier won Women’s Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to their first conference championship since 2018. At the conference meet, the Bobcats had ten athletes finish on top of the podium standing with three winning individual titles in the discus, hammer and shot put throwing events.
